Distributors of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki refuse to share screens with Prabhas’s Salaar

Date:

The greatest fights at the box office typically take place behind closed doors, ahead of opening day, and over multiple anxious phone calls. Presently, Dunki starring Shah Rukh Khan, and Salaar starring Prabhas are competing for the highest number of screens and the most showcasing.

The social comedy-drama Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is scheduled for release on Thursday, December 21. Then After one day, Prashanth Neel of KGF’s action-drama Salaar would be released worldwide. Arriving over the Christmas weekend and featuring two major stars means showcasing mayhem for exhibitors, particularly for struggling single-screen proprietors.

There is an explicit statement from the Dunki team stating that they do not wish to share the screen with Salaar. “Either give us all four shows or don’t give any,” the clause states. We’ll decide what to do with more movies in the future if you don’t provide it to us. Salaar is being directed by Anil Thadani’s AA Films, while Pen Marudhar is handling distribution for Dunki.

With Prabhas’ “Salaar,” Hombale Productions makes a significant move. The production company declared two days before the film’s premiere that PVRInox and Miraj theaters in the Southern states would no longer be showing the movie. A ruling has been made regarding the purportedly unfair exchange of screenings between “Dunki” and “Salaar” in Northern India.

Due to unfair trade, Hammerdale withdrew from PVR Inox and Miraj Cinemas in the South

Multiplexes and single screens, SRK’s Red Chillies, and Hammerbale Productions have reportedly been in talks for the past week. Even after meeting with SRK, the “Salaar” producers decided that both movies would receive 50/50 screening rights. But it seems like the agreement isn’t being abided by.”

Producer Vijay Kirgandur had earlier stated that they had decided on 50/50 screening rights because they didn’t want to enter into a feud over screenings.

According to our source, “Many claimed back-and-forths and false rumors resulted on single screens in north India prefer showing ‘Dunki’ over ‘Salaar,’ having consensus agreement.”

Another noteworthy trend in North India was the rise in “Salaar” reservations. But now that “Dunki” is shown on more screens in the North than “Salaar,” the disparity is obvious.

Since Salaar is a large-scale picture and requires the drawing of single screens, AA Films is okay with sharing shows. “Two out of four concerts is fine with them. The proposal is for one prime-time show (6.30 and 9.30 PM) to go to Salaar, one to Dunki, and the exhibitors to choose the remaining two (12.30 and 3.30 PM).  Currently, only Thursday is available for booking on single screens since exhibitors are still deciding how to handle this situation.

What Impact Will Have On The Directories

Senior distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal said that Salaar will overtake Dunki in the South due to Prabhas and that Dunki will receive more theaters in the North due to Shah Rukh. According to Bansal, there are two large wholesalers in this instance with a strong supply chain. “Single screens typically choose Salaar, but occasionally, because of their relationships with the distributors, they will choose Dunki. The struggle for standalone and single-screen theaters is fierce.

Of the projected 5400 screens in the South, PVRInox accounts for roughly 45–50% of the screens there. The exhibitors expect a significant decline in foot traffic as a result of this change.

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan play key parts in “Salaar” as well. Prashanth Neel is the director of the movie, which is expected to be one of the biggest releases in India this year. Positive box office receipts for the movie have been reported, and the global market is expanding significantly.

There has been an increase in reservations for “Salaar: Cease Fire-Part 1” in India. According to data, over 6 lakh seats were sold and over Rs 13.70 crore in reservations were made in India as of Tuesday.

Bansal clarified the situation by stating that one movie would receive five showings and the other three if the property had two screens in North India. Dunki will be available in all theaters on Thursday since it is a Thursday release.

Up until Tuesday, the “Salaar” Telugu 2D concerts had sold over 4.30 lakh tickets, while its Malayalam 2D shows had sold 87,361 tickets. Conversely, Salaar has approximately 63,746 tickets reserved in Hindi, 34,809 tickets in Tamil, and 8,216 tickets reserved in Kannada.
