Introduction
Jonathan Majors, more than any other actor, had a lot riding on Marvel. It is now breaking up with him, upending years’ worth of preparations for its cinematic universe.
Following the actor’s conviction for assault and harassment on Monday, Marvel Studios and the Walt Disney Co. reportedly axed Majors from all upcoming projects. A person close to the studio spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
Disney’s quick action represented a startling 180-degree turn for an actor who had previously been among Hollywood’s quickest-rising stars. After an altercation with his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari in March, a Manhattan jury on Monday uncovered the 34-year-old Majors guilty of one infraction assault in charge of one assault violation
Who is Jonathan Majors
As the evil Kang the Conquerer, Majors was supposed to lead the next chapter of the lucrative Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. In addition to portraying the role in two Marvel films, he was supposed to make an appearance in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” in 2026.
It was initially unclear who would be chosen to play the main antagonist of the upcoming “Phase Six” series of connected Marvel films.
Before the accusations of assault made by his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, which he has refuted, Majors was regarded as one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars.
With a supporting part in the critically acclaimed 2019 independent drama “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” which was released by A24, he made his big-screen debut. Following that, he was nominated for an Emmy for his leading part in the HBO series “Lovecraft Country.”
After the bodybuilding drama “Magazine Dreams” made its Sundance Film Festival debut earlier this year, he gained attention at the Oscars. After acquiring the distribution rights, Disney’s Searchlight Pictures discreetly withdrew the film from its autumn release schedule.
Majors co-starred in “Creed III” and Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” two of the biggest blockbusters of the year. The actor’s profile increased as a result of the two films’ combined box office receipts of over $150 million in North America.
Jonathan Majors Was Found Guilty of Assault and Harassment
Marvel Studios and the Walt Disney Co. reportedly axed Majors from all upcoming projects. A person close to the studio spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
Majors, who was found not guilty of a separate assault allegation and aggravated harassment, is scheduled to be sentenced on 6 February. He walked out of the courthouse without saying anything. In a statement, Majors’ lawyer Priya Chaudhry said, “It is evident that the jury did not accept Grace Jabbari’s account of what transpired in the SUV since they concluded that Mr. Majors did not purposefully inflict any injuries to her.”
The highly acclaimed Majors was cast as the antagonist Kang the Conqueror by the superhero studio as it prepared for phase five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s response to Avengers: Endgame’s antagonist Thanos, the character was intended to appear in multiple movies and television shows.
Majors then sounded very much aware that his sudden rise to prominence came with a risk of failure.
Majors remarked, “Even though I haven’t seen the boogeyman, I know it exists.” And I’ve been here long enough to see it coming. I refuse to descend my death rabbit hole, but it is coming. However, you outpace it. Simply remain outside of the frame. I will remain out of the picture.
